Burdock root comes from burdock, a weed that is related to sunflowers and part of the daisy family. Burdock root has been part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, for centuries and is associated with lung and stomach meridians and has pre-biotic fibers and contains inulin that improves digestion and lowers blood sugar.
An anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties include quercetin, luteolin and phenolic acids. It stimulates lymphatic drainage and detoxification and helps cleanse the kidneys.
Therapeutic actions include; acne, bladder infections, purifying the blood, colds, treating diabetes by lowering blood sugar, a diuretic and increases urine flow, treating and preventing infection and reducing fever and killing germs, psoriasis, complications of syphilis and sore throats.
If taken as an oil extract or tincture it is diaphoretic and diuretic and rich in phytosterols and essential fatty acids.
You can easily add burdock root into your vegetable stews of steep it for 5-10 minutes in boiling water and then use with stir fry vegetables and tofu.

CAUTION: If you have allergies to daisies, chrysanthemum or ragweed you may also have an allergy to burdock. If you are taking diuretics it could increase the urine causing dehydration and is not recommended to take while on Rx diuretics. May increase bruising and bleeding if taken with blood thinners.
